Graduate Directions for 2020

VBHS Graduate Directions for 2020 Morning and Evening

For the Morning Ceremony Event:

  • From the traffic light intersection, proceed to the main (center) entrance to the stadium at the roadside of 16th street, and keep social distancing according to the 6 foot separated lines on the sidewalk.
  • As you enter the stadium you will receive a Ziplock bag containing your VBHS mask, a pencil, your name/photo card for roll call, and this direction sheet, inside.
  • You must be wearing your cap and gown as well as your own mask or the VBHS mask provided to you to keep, and you must remain in a seat spot marked with an X in the stadium seats for the duration of the formal program until the roll call at the end.The only time the mask is allowed to be taken off is if you choose to remove it when you cross the stage for the pictures taken there by the professional photographer, and you may wear it then also, if you wish.
  • Please stand when asked as the “pomp and circumstance” music is playing in the beginning of the program.Remain standing as our JROTC presents the colors, and our chorus sings the National Anthem and or chorus and orchestra ensemble play and sing our Alma Mater.
  • While in the stands, fill out your name and photo card (both sides) by neatly printing your full name as you wish to have it read when you cross the stage, on the front side (Phonetic Spelling means how it sounds) and the back side for the professional photographer.
  • In order to cross the stage for the roll call, which happens after speeches and recognitions are complete and Mr. O’Keefe will then say “Now, without further ado, I present to you the roll call…”, you will be asked by teachers in the stands to proceed down and out the ramp exits of the bleachers underneath and west towards the scoreboard and through the track gate to the stage entrance.Follow the social distance lines on the marked on the ground and stay separated by the marks. Have your name card in your hand at this point, and leave the stands in the following order; section F first, then section E, then D, then C, then B, then A.Don’t be in a hurry, because crossing the stage early only means you are then waiting in the stands afterwards for everyone to return to a seat, so you can be certified all together at the end after all graduates have gone through the roll call and have returned to their seats.
  • Graduates present your card to the name reader at the stage entrance ramp.
  • When your name is called, cross the stage and receive your ceremonial diploma from Principal O’Keefe.
  • Professional photographers will be taking your picture crossing the stage and again at the off ramp of the stage.
  • After your picture is taken off the ramp, return your ceremonial diploma cover to Ms. Watson (your real diploma can be picked up any weekday between 8-2 in the front office). Your real diploma will come with a diploma cover.
  • When you exit the stage, turn left and enter the underneath of the bleachers at the far east end (under where the band sits at games)return to the same ramp you entered earlier and a stadium bleacher seat, so that you may be certified as graduates, after all names have been called and everyone is seated again.
  • Certification in the end is the turning of the tassel part, and you will then be pronounced as a graduate.

For the Evening Drive Thru Roll Call Event (No Formal Ceremony):

  • East Gate to the Junior/Senior lot will open at 4:15
  • Follow the cones and arrows direction cars to the left and around to parking space or stay in line depending upon your arrival time. You may refer to the directions map posted on our school website.
  • At the tent beside the tennis courts you must pick up your graduation name and picture card. There you will receive a Ziplock bag containing a pencil, your name/photo card for roll call, and this direction sheet, inside.
  • Fill out your name card by neatly, printing your full name as you wish to have it read when you cross the stage.
  • Your vehicle’s movement will be regulated by law enforcement, and everyone must stay in the car except for bathroom visit if necessary, at designated locations in the parking lot.
  • As your vehicle moves onto the track inside the stadium and arrives at the stage in front of the home side bleachers, graduates only leave the vehicle and enter the entrance ramp of the stage, while all other vehicle occupants must remain in the car.
  • You may choose to wear a mask of your own, or your provided VBHS gift mask and if you are wearing a mask you may wear it or remove it for the picture on and off the stage, but this is up to you.
  • Graduates present your card to AP Gonzalez at the stage entrance ramp.
  • Your vehicle then pulls to the center of the stage to take pictures from the window of the vehicle as the graduate crosses the stage.
  • When your name is read, you cross the stage with your vehicle only feet away from you.
  • Professional photographers will be taking your picture crossing the stage and again at the off ramp of the stage.
  • After your picture is taken off the ramp by the professional photographer, return your ceremonial diploma cover to Mrs. Turner (your real diploma can be picked up any weekday between 8-2 in the front office). Your real diploma will come with a diploma cover.
  • You will then reenter your vehicle and be escorted out of the stadium by law enforcement at the east end of the stadium, and this concludes the event. Please see the vehicle route map.
