Students awarded Silent Service Award

Victoria Brown and Emma Farmer are excellent students with bright futures ahead of them. They are also completely selfless young women who are genuinely concerned for the well-being of all students. They are committed to helping those students in need at Vero Beach HS. Victoria and Emma have taken it upon themselves to make sure all students feel accepted, included, and have a caring ear. Each day Victoria and Emma go into a Special Education classroom on campus to eat lunch with the six special-needs students there. They sit with this group of special-needs students treating them as friends and equals. They do what all students do. They talk about school activities, discuss things like current events, food, holidays, home life, and much more. Not only do they discuss these topics with them but, they demonstrate their true friendship by building real relationships with each student. They recall previous day’s conversations and build off them in each visit. While this may not seem like a whole lot to some, to the six special-needs students they eat lunch with each day, it means a great deal and represents the very essence of our Silent Service Award.
