April 19th Screening of 'A Plastic Ocean'

VBHS Green Team & Sea a Difference Present Documentary 'A Plastic Ocean'

A Plastic Ocean graphicThe documentary, A Plastic Ocean, was released recently to raise awareness about the issue of single-use plastics and the environmental impacts of plastic pollution around the world. This is particularly important here, as recently published data revealed that microplastics (minute pieces of plastic) levels in shellfish from the Indian River Lagoon were higher than any other shellfish sampled around the world. Living along the coast, we have a responsibility to prevent plastics from entering the aquatic ecosystems. So the VBHS Green Team & a local non-profit, SEA a Difference Environmental Services, are co-sponsoring this event to raise awareness in the local community about the impacts of plastic pollution. The students have been collecting plastic debris from beach cleanups all year long, and are transforming them into artworks to demonstrate the connection between plastic pollution and aquatic organisms. The screening is on April 19th at the VBHS Performing Arts Center and  is free and open to the public;  doors open at 6 pm.
